core exercises
While there is no way to spot reduce fat through exercising or diet alone, one of the best ways to ensure a flatter stomach is by strengthening your core.  In recent years, several forms of exercise have become popular that address this group of muscles, which are located in the abdomen, lower back and pelvis.  They’ve been endorsed by Hollywood celebrities and models, who tout the longer, leaner look they’ve achieved through these low-impact exercises that are popular for their flowing, graceful movements and ease of practice.  Many can be practiced at home, though some may require special equipment.  Pilates, yoga, and use of an exercise ball are the most popular examples of these core exercises.

Pilates is the newest craze in core exercising, though it has been around since the first World War.  The focus here is on form and breathing.  Every move has to be carefully conducted, involving all parts of the body.  The main theories include precision and control, rhythm and flow, concentration, balanced muscle development, and centering.  Statistics show there are over 14,000 Pilates instructors in the United States and millions of practitioners.  Moves are easily modified for all fitness levels.  While some complain that Pilates includes complicated equipment and high-priced lessons, there are many instructional videos available that allow you to practice at home for a fraction of the cost.

Yoga is a spiritual practice that originated in India thousands of years ago.  It is not only a form of exercise, but also a way of life for many.  Yoga involves several postures, or asanas, that come together in various sequences.  Yoga poses can be easily modified based on your fitness level.  No special equipment is needed, though some might purchase a yoga mat, block and strap.  There are several variations of yoga in the West, and it is no longer solely a spiritual practice, as many who practice it only regard it as a form of exercise.

The exercise ball is a large inflatable ball used to perform various exercises.  The most popular are sit-ups and push-ups, as the ball forces you to maintain your balance while performing these basic exercises.  This continual balancing act strengthens your core muscles.  Many videos are available, and some incorporate yoga or Pilates as well.  The ball is easily deflated for storage and usually costs less than $20.  It is a convenient way to practice balance in your own home and use traditional exercises to strengthen core muscles.

No matter what exercise method you choose, these are not created for quick weight loss, but rather to give you a longer, leaner look.  You may notice a reduction in inches before a significant drop in body weight.  Be sure to follow a sensible diet, and if cravings are a problem, try a natural appetite suppressant like hoodia to keep you on track.

There is nothing that signals being in shape quite like a six pack stomach. It is a badge of honor in the fitness industry that signifies dedication and hard work to your fitness goals. It’s also one of the most asked about and misunderstood subjects in the health and industry for the simple fact that most people go about trying to build washboard abs the wrong way.

Part of the problem is the way most people go about building their set of killer abs. Doing hundreds of sit-ups and crunches will build those muscles, but there is more to it then that. You have to see those abs and most people have a nice layer of fat hiding theirs. You see having a set of stellar abs is a function of not only muscle development but also body fat, and to take it one step further it is a function of overall fitness levels.

You see there is more to six pack abs then just being lean and having strong abdominal muscles. A truly fit person has overall bodily strength, endurance, and stability that comes from a combination of healthy diet and core strength exercises. Make no mistake, there is no secret shortcut to building a six pack stomach. It will take a lifestyle centered around nutrition and training if you want to succeed.

The key to a building strong abdominals is improving your core strength. Your core is your entire midsection that includes the muscles around your hips, waist, and back. If all you do is focus on your abdominal muscles you will create an imbalance that can set you up for lower back problems and pain. By focusing on your core you can develop your abs, your core, and your back which creates balance and prevents back issues.

You don’t want to be one dimensional with your training. If you see the body as a whole system and work it as such you will see not only improvement in your abs but also your entire body. This is known as multidimensional training and it will allow you to develop a strong core and functional body.

Look at it this way, your stomach muscles are part of a system. You need to build the entire system for the best results. If you isolate and only work your abdominals without doing core strength exercises you will defeat the purpose of your training. By working your entire core you will become stronger and prevent injuries that will slow down any progress you may be making.

There is a program available called Firm & Flatten Your Abs that shows you how to build a six pack stomach using these concepts. It will outline what nutritional changes you need to make and give you a complete workout program that strengthens your core with its multi-dimensional training approach.

Body Weight Routine

body weight exercise
The key to effective & permanent body toning lies within the definition of the word itself. In short, it means to form, reshape and modify the composition of the body that you currently have. The main focus being on fat-reduction/skin tightening and muscle firming (maybe even a little bit of muscle building). Unfortunately, there are many myths and mis-perceptions that put a more confusing, and often times harmful, meaning behind the simple concept of body toning.

Print ads, radio advertisements and television commercials trying to push the latest fitness gizmos, spas selling body-wrap treatments, ******** personal trainers delivering painful & time consuming ‘weights and machines’ type exercise programs and even supplement companies marketing body toning pills are all trying to tap into the emotional pain zones in people of all ages, body types and fitness levels to make more sales without delivering the desired results as safely as possible with as little cost as possible.

In speaking of cost, I not only speak of financial loss but also the loss of one’s self confidence and trust in others who are supposed to be helping and not taking unfair advantage of people in desperate or uncertain circumstances. When hopes are dashed by continuous failure, the spirit tends to get worn down.

But let not your hopes be crushed here because effective, safe and permanent body toning can in fact be achieved without a health club membership, without expensive visits to a ‘skin-wrapping’ clinic, without fraudulent or harmful ‘diet’ supplements and, most of all, without painful and time consuming workout sessions.

As a career fitness pro and trainer I’ve had the great opportunity to work with many people coming from different life situations, physical abilities, fitness levels, and most importantly, emotional starting points. This history of experience has taught me what the books can’t teach.

As each brought their own definition of body toning into the evaluation process it helped me realize that all people have their own personal definition of what it would mean for them to be in great physical condition. Some want to lose weight while getting firmer and stronger. Some want to maintain weight and tone up with shapelier, curvier muscles. Some want to build up certain body areas, such as the **** and thighs or core and shoulders and add a little bit of healthy body weight in the process.

What most people do not understand is the method by which their goals can be achieved is quite realistic and surprisingly simple as compared to what they previously thought they knew or had been told. Weights, machines and ‘bodybuilder’ type workouts are not for everyone. This type of fitness routine is not realistic for most people – let alone busy people with careers and/or families. Being young and single may allow for this consuming, almost obsessed, type of lifestyle. But as we develop careers and grow our families, spending 2 hours in the gym every day is not a realistic or healthy routine.

By utilizing a wide choice of body toning exercises with some simple fitness tools (mat, exercise ball, step), a you can make consistent progress in your specific fitness and body toning goals. Form, tempo, sequence and progression are all underutilized variables in the workout routines of many fitness seekers. By using these misunderstood variables and crafting a body toning program that can be done literally anywhere and anytime, (such as at home when the kids are asleep or before getting ready for work) most of the excuses and obstacles that would prevent long term fitness success are erased.

By replacing your past failures, mis-perceptions, excuses and obstacles with proper information, proven fitness principles and targeted exercises you have cleared a path pointing directly at your body toning success and long term fitness of the mind, body and spirit.
